YouthMAP pairs Davidson College students with children from Barium Springs and Ada Jenkins. Over the course of three months, we meet once a week learning about photography, the editing process, and setting up photo-shoots. Students become technologically-savvy while also expressing themselves artistically through the outlet of photography.

Interspersed between lessons, we take students on field-trips to local non-profits. These excursions allow students to shoot in a new environment, and students receive the opportunity to give back to their own community. The students have fun and the non-profits receive photographs for marketing.

WHAT WE DO.

Our three-month program concludes with a Gala which provides a gallery setting for participants to display their portfolio to friends family and local community members. The Gala allows participants to take ownership of their work. It marks a true transition in their sense of self, and enables them to navigate their future course in life with greater self-confidence.
